My story
Why I built Applegate AI
What I noticed early on was that AI was never out of reach for small businesses technically. It was priced out of reach. Tools were being sold for tens of thousands a month that, most of the time, weren't doing anything a focused builder couldn't put together.
So I took a different route. Instead of building everything from scratch, I connect tools that already exist into automations that do the heavy lifting, at a fraction of what an enterprise vendor charges.
I learned it the long way. Two years of building systems myself, breaking them and rebuilding them properly. Then college, to sharpen the areas where I was weakest.
In 2024 I built an AI dialler here in Norwich. It has since run outbound calling for a large UK marketing operation, and it is still in use today. That project taught me what "in production" really means: if it breaks at 9am on a Monday, someone's business stops.

It isn't a stopgap until I can afford a team. It's how I think this work should be done.

AI should be practical, not a gimmick
Every tool I build solves a real business problem. If it doesn't move the needle on revenue, time, or customer experience, I don't ship it.
Small businesses deserve enterprise-grade tools
The technology big companies use to dominate shouldn't be locked behind six-figure budgets. I make it accessible.
Automation should free people, not replace them
